Sharing your server

Sharing is for people who do not live in your house. Anyone on your own network can already watch by picking a profile, with no account and no invitation.

The person you invite gets their own account, signs in with their own password on their own devices, and gets their own profile on your server with their own watch history. Nothing is shared except the library.

Their remote watching is covered by your subscription. They are never asked to pay and never see an upsell.

Inviting someone

Settings → Users and Profiles → Sharing → Invite.

Type their email address. They get a message with a code and a link. They create an account (or sign into the one they have), and your server appears in their list.

The same thing is available from your account page, if you happen to be away from the server.

Pending invitations are listed with a Revoke next to each, for when you get the address wrong or change your mind before they accept.

Everything administrative is yours alone. They cannot rename a library, cannot delete a file, and cannot get into the settings hub.

If you have set a rating cap on their profile, it applies to them exactly as it does to anyone in the house.

Seeing who has access

The same Sharing panel lists everyone with access to this server, with the address they signed up with and when they were added.

Taking access away

Remove access next to their name. They lose the server immediately.

Here is what “immediately” means in practice, because it is worth knowing: on this server, access is cut the moment you click, because your server is the one doing the removing. The permission that lets their apps find your server from elsewhere expires within a couple of hours at most. So a stream already playing may finish; nothing new will start.

Removing access does not delete their profile or their watch history on your server. If you invite them back later, it is all still there.

Limits worth knowing about

• Five simultaneous remote streams, across everyone you share with, including yourself. Watching on your own network never counts towards it, for anyone.
• There is no per-person download or stream quota. If you need one, tell us.
• You cannot share one library rather than the whole server. Access is per server. If you want to hold something back, put it in a separate server, or use a rating cap on their profile.

Guests at a Movie Night are different

You can pull somebody into a Movie Night who has no account at all, using a link or a six-digit code. They are not “shared with”: they can see the one thing being watched that evening and nothing else, and they lose that when the night ends.
